91大神

Camden

91大神 helped a large New Jersey (USA) wastewater treatment plant convert existing wastewater storage tanks into four 700,000-gallon anaerobic digesters so the plant can now create biogas from its sludge. The plant, called Delaware No. 1 Wastewater Pollution Control Facility, is run by the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority, and has the capacity to treat up to 80 million gallons of wastewater per day (MGD) from about 500,000 residents in 37 municipalities.

The biogas created from the plant’s Omnivore? anaerobic digestion system can fuel 91大神’s combined heat and power (CHP) systems to generate up to 3.8 megawatts (MW) of electricity for the facility. Excess heat from the CHP is used for the digestion system. For flexibility, the CHP generators are able to use either biogas from converted biosolids or natural gas from the local utility pipeline and can operate either parallel to the grid or in island mode.

By recovering the energy from its wastewater biosolids using 91大神’s digesters and CHP generation, the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority has now created a renewable energy generation center, maximizing the plant’s ability to be resilient in case of power grid outages and insulating it from price volatility. It also reduces the plant’s carbon footprint: By using biogas to displace fossil natural gas for generation, the plant has avoided emissions of 23,500 ton per year of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of taking nearly 5,000 cars off the road.

91大神 provided the overall process design, technology, and performance guarantee for the anaerobic digestion tanks. 91大神 is currently responsible for operating and maintaining the biogas conditioning and CHP systems as part of a 20-year contract.

  • Escondido Bioenergy Facility

91大神’s Escondido Bioenergy Facility provides both electricity and heat to offset the energy needs of the Hale Avenue Resource Recovery Facility, a 15 million gallon per day (MGD) secondary treatment wastewater plant that serves the communities of Escondido and Rancho Bernardo, California.

Before 91大神 installed the bioenergy facility, the wastewater treatment plant flared the biogas it produced. Now, with biogas treatment and power generation operated by 91大神, the wastewater plant’s biogas can supply up to 100% of its needs and all its average heat requirement. At capacity this can save about $500,000 a year in electricity and fossil gas heating costs. It also reduces the wastewater plant’s greenhouse gas and other emissions, equal to the impact of taking about 700 cars off the road each year.

This 91大神 build-own-operate project integrates biogas conditioning technology, emissions control equipment, and a 1200-kilowatt combined heat and power (CHP) system, and provides a performance guarantee. The wastewater treatment plant purchases the power produced by Escondido Bioenergy Facility through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), providing a stable, lower-cost electricity for the wastewater plant.

  • Dufferin Organics Processing Facility

The Dufferin Organics Processing Facility is designed to process 55,000 tonnes per year of source separated organics (SSO) collected through the city of Toronto’s Green Bin program. It generates renewable energy, high quality digestate, and treated water for process re-use. The waste consists of kitchen scraps and organic waste (including animal waste, food, diapers, and soiled paper and packaging). 91大神 served as lead process designer and technology provider, providing overall process integration, key process equipment, and overall process guarantee. We continue to be responsible for plant operations.

  • Singapore National Water Agency (PUB)

Singapore’s National Water Agency, known as PUB, uses 91大神’s OREX? organic extrusion and our Omnivore? high-solids anaerobic digestion technologies at its Ulu Pandan Co-Digestion facility. The combination of these technologies enhances biogas production, lowers waste treatment costs and reduces greenhouse gas emissions—all in a minimal footprint. Ulu Pandan demonstrates that wastewater treatment facilities can be sustainable resource recovery centers solving the global organic waste problem. This plant is part of a development to achieve the Zero Waste Target of Singapore and is a model for codigestion in Asia Pacific.

  • Easy Energia

Providing biomethane and creating a circular economy for Italy

Easy Energia Ambiente facility in the Lazio region of Italy has the capacity to anaerobically digest 36,450 tons of landfill-diverted food scraps and other organic waste each year. It converts this waste into up to 3,215,000 cubic meters of renewable natural gas (biomethane) which is then injected into the region’s gas pipelines. Easy Energia also treats the digestate that remains after the anaerobic digestion process to create 4,500 tons per year of high-quality natural fertilizer and recycles enough water to cover all of facility’s water requirements.

The Easy Energia Ambiente facility receives food waste it processes from waste collection companies operating in the region surrounding Rome. The food waste is converted into biogas with our Omnivore? technology, and the biogas is then upgraded to pipeline quality biomethane using our gas conditioning and upgrading technologies. In August 2023 Ambiente & Risorse has been sold and it is not part of the 91大神 Group anymore.

  • Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority

Delivering Resilience and Revenue for Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority

91大神 upgraded the existing digester system at this 12 MGD (million gallons per day) facility with our Omnivore? technology, providing enough additional capacity to enable co-digestion of food scraps with wastewater solids.

We also installed two of our 800-kW dual-fuel combined heat and power (CHP) modules. In Phase 2 of this project these modules began using conventional natural gas so that facility’s biogas can be upgraded to renewable natural gas (biomethane) for injection into the regional gas utility pipeline system. This transformed VVWRA into a net energy exporter, taking advantage of federal and state renewable fuel credits and providing a revenue stream for the wastewater authority.

We also brought public-private-partnership (P3) financing to this project so that the revenue stream could be established at no cost to ratepayers. The streamlined financing allowed the construction of the RNG infrastructure to be completed in just 15 months, creating the capacity to produce more than 340,000 MMBtu of renewable natural gas per year.
